Summer break is almost over and many of us are looking forward to getting back to our Bible study groups. Whether you are brand new to Bible study or a lifelong learner, there is always more to discover. While sermons and Sunday School teach Bible basics, in a Bible study group you will be able to study specific topics which will help you grow in your faith. Most churches offer some type of Bible study class that takes place on a day other than Sunday, such as Wednesday evening. Your own church is a great place to begin digging deeper into the Scriptures.
There are also other options available to learn more about God through His Word, the Bible. You can always study the Bible on your own using books, videos and online resources. The Bible app offers a huge selection of devotionals, Bible study plans, and different Bible translations. all for free. The ESV Bible also has an app and website. And there are literally thousands of YouTube channels, podcasts, and radio programs that can help you learn more about God’s word.
Studying the Bible with a group, however, can provide many benefits such as having a more mature and learned teacher to guide you, enjoying discussion with like-minded believers, and offering fellowship opportunities. Joining a group and using a structured study based on a workbook also helps keeps us on track and moving forward at a steady pace. It is also easier to learn and retain new information in a regular class setting than by studying at irregular times by yourself.
Community Bible Study
Community Bible Study is an amazing international, non-denominational Bible-based organization that offers excellent group studies for all ages using a workbook, class discussion and lecture style. The method is 1)Study the lessons and write answers to questions at home and then 2)Discuss questions and hear a lecture on class day. CBS has locations all over the world. They even have classes in prisons and in countries that are hostile to Christians!
The Bellville location is a women-only class at this time. Women and children come from all over to come to this class once a week. The class meets in the Bellville Methodist Church building, but is non-denominational. The Bellville class offers in-person, remote (La Grange and Brenham) and online classes. Some classes are already full. For more information check out their website or Facebook page.
I have been attending CBS in Bellville since my youngest children were in preschool and they are now 18 and 19! I can’t say enough about this wonderful ministry. If you are interested in a structured, life-changing, faith-building Bible study group where the focus is on understanding and applying God’s word, please check out CBS.
