Be sure to watch your mail for the following letter from the Austin County Appraisal District with instructions on how to re-file an application for homestead exemption. It appears that only some people will receive this letter, but no information is given on how they decide who gets one. Failure to RE-APPLY BY DECEMBER 4, 2023 could result in losing your exemption from 2024.
Instructions for applying online at forms.austincad.org can be found in the letter and below.
- First you will be required to create an account with a username and password.
- Check your email for the verification.
- Click the link in the email to get started.
- Click on Forms.
- Choose Homestead Exemption and fill out the form.
- Be sure to click SUBMIT when finished and check your email for a confirmation.

This process took me about 20 minutes which included taking photos of our IDs and uploading them. You will need your property information which can be found on the same website by searching for your property.
This is being required by the state of Texas as a way to find people who no longer qualify for the homestead exemption and therefore owe more in taxes.
If you find the online process too complicated you can apply in person at the Appraisal office at 906 E. Amelia in Bellville. Hours are Monday- Friday 8:30-4:00. Phone number is 979-865-9124
